Prana is a term employed in various forms of yoga. In Hindu yoga teachings it signifies a subtle vitality contained in the air that is modified by the human body to govern its essential functions. In Hatha yoga training this vitality is enhanced by special yoga exercises known as Pranayama.
By a combination of Hatha yoga exercises and Pranayama techniques a latent force known as kundalini is aroused with the human body. Usually it is thought that when kunalini resides below the heart chakra it can cause rampant sexual desires, ego inflation, and other stressful problems, but when aroused and conducted all the way up the spine to the crown chakra in the brain it can produce higher consciousness and transcendental states.
